The Migrant Hub Inc. with the support of KUAM and MECCA Inc. is holding its first Kulcher FoodFest in Werribee from 10am December 12, 2009. The festival will showcase the culinary contribution of our diverse community, including food from Malaysia and Indonesia. Unique to the event are the kulcher houses where ethnic groups promote their culture, display and sell their cultural products to the community in their traditional attire. The Malay community will be represented in this event. Kulcher Foodfest hopes to bring together the various ethnic communities in our multicultural society thereby creating more opportunities to build closer relationships and promote social inclusion. The festival will be held at the Sistems Golf Complex and will include a mini-golf, putting and driving range competition, cultural presentations, arts & craft, a variety of stalls, a flea market and amusement rides for children.

The Young Corporate Malaysians (YCM) is a young professionals business club whose activities include organizing the YCM CEO Series, inviting CEOs such as Dato’ Johan Raslan, Dato’ Nirmala Menon and Dato’ Justin Leong to talk to young professionals. YCM has also recently started its YCM Ambassador Series, featuring ambassadors and high commissioners from various countries.

Throughout this year, KUAM will be collecting money at certain intervals and all our events to help build a mosque for the Malay Melbourne community. The Academic & Research Networking Bureau of VMPGA is organizing a ‘Coffee-Session’ on ‘Getting Started with your Postgraduate Studies’ on Saturday, 7th November 2009 at Malaysia Hall Melbourne.

The speakers invited to handle this session are: Hanif Yaacob (3rd year Ph.D. student at RMIT, MOSTI scholarship holder, former VMPGA President, ) and Rohani Mohamad (2nd year Ph.D. student at University of Melbourne, has teaching experience in Canada, USA and Malaysia, attached to UTM, former VMPGA exco).

Starting a research degree is an exciting and challenging time. You’ll be meeting new people, exploring new ideas and techniques, developing a range of new skills and advancing old ones. As with anything new, there are a number of adjustments to be made when starting life as a postgraduate student. The speakers will share tips and their personal experiences on basic but essential matters pertaining to postgraduate studies in Australia.
