The individuals of KUAM
Haerris Riani – President
Haerris Riani is currently in his final semester of his Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University. He was born in Kuala Lumpur in May 1985 and spent most of his childhood in Shah Alam. He loves to indulge himself in all the different types of food and cuisines. He would spend his holidays travelling and learning more about new interesting places. He has always had a great passion in motorsports such as Formula 1 and MotoGP. Having elected as KUAM president for 2009/10. He strives to unite all the Malaysian Students together as well as create better relationship with the wider Australian community. He is proud to be engaged with all the student activities in Melbourne and is looking forward to 2010 and hopes to work closely with all the other Malaysian Student Organisations as well as other individuals, volunteers, and sponsors a like. With the support of his team, he is confident that KUAM is able to go to new heights and promote unity with the slogan “KUAMUNITI” in line with the current Prime Minister of Malaysia’s vision of 1 Malaysia
Hasif Hadi – Vice President
Hasif Irsyadudin Abdul Hadi Currently studying in Monash University Clayton, I am pursuing my degree in Bachelor of Medicine under scholarship by JPA. I was born in Kuantan, the capital of Pahang to my lovely family on December 1988 (people always mistook me as someone from Selangor). To me, I’m like a blank paper, currently being filled with drawings, colours and words from my life experiences. Being part of the committee is a great pleasure and I would love to meet everyone, Malaysians in general. So if you see me walking down the street, don’t forget to say hi. We’ll have a nice conversation, shake hands and I’ll say ‘nice meeting you!’
Muhammad Kamal – Treasurer
Muhammad Kamal is an undergraduate in Bachelor of Commerce at University of Melbourne, Parkville. He lives in Melaka but most of the time he is based in Selangor, parasitising at his sister’s house in Kota Damansara. Being raised in a typical but loving family, he find that it is quite difficult for him ?to get to know people due to his shyness and self-consciousness, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy meeting new people. Currently in a journey to define himself, this young man is known for his generously big winning smile, thus being perceived by others as a happy-go-lucky type of person. When not studying, Kamal can be found online stalking other people on facebook. Beware! He might be stalking you right now.
Mohamed Shamir Hameed – Secretary
I’m Shamir, currently pursuing my degree in the field of Advertising at RMIT. Contrary to popular random first time guesses, I’m not an Arab, Maldivian, Sri Lankan, Fijian, nor even Mexican (most probably due to my afro). Although there’s a very slight chance of my ancestors having Turkish blood somewhere down the line, the truth is, I’m an ‘anak mami’ from the lovely island called Penang. However, I’ve grown into becoming a passionate KL-ite since moving to Kuala Lumpur more than a decade ago. Apart from part-time work experiences ranging from jewellery to branding and radio companies, I have also done freelancing in emceeing and copywriting. Those who know me better will certainly agree that my passion has always been towards the performing arts. An avid fan of theater, having acted in a couple of productions myself, I also love composing music and play the keyboards. Other interests include dance, philosophy and politics. I’m also known for cracking lame jokes too! As the secretary, I look forward to serving Malaysians through the various events planned by KUAM together with the guidance of our President Haerris and my fellow versatile yet witty teammates! We’re here to take Kuamuniti to another level! It is only with YOUR participation, we can succeed in doing so. So please be sporting, patriotic and share that ‘semangat’ you have within. Looking forward to see you soon! Salam Sejahtera!
Aida Zabidi – Liaison Officer
Khaidatul Zabidi – or better know as Aida Zabidi – is a final year medical student from Melbourne University. She was born in Muar, but brought up in Subang Jaya – she went to high school in SMK Subang Utama, and is proud of being from Subang. The same sense of pride spills over to being proud of being Malaysian, and she believes that leading by example and getting involved with the local community is the best way to grow as a person, and that we all have a responsibility to give back to our country. Aida feels blessed to have been part of an active student network and is of the opinion that people who complain should step up and take initiative to make changes happen.
Ryhan Jamalullail – Promotional Officer
Ryhan Jamalullail is an undergraduate in Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at RMIT University. She was born and raised in Selangor and is the youngest out of four children. Being raised in a big family, she grew up being close to her cousins and has learnt the meaning of prioritizing her family first. She is usually quiet the first time around you meet her, but as you get to know her, you can have a chat about absolutely anything together. Personal interests include music, arts, strolling around the city, photography, and having coffee. While being in Melbourne, she’d like to maximize as much of her time balancing between university life and her social life. She believes that everyone needs the best of both worlds to enjoy their life away from home. She perceives herself as an average young woman who is striving to be the best that she can be. Being part of the committee is an honor and she hopes to meet new people along the way. The next time around you bump into her, do say hello and introduce yourself, because she’ll do the same
Rahman Aziz – Cultural Officer
My name is Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Aziz. Was born and bred in Johor Bahru. Received early education there but has since travelled away from home to further my studies. Currently studying the Bachelor of Commerce course (majoring in Accounting and Finance) as a second year student at the University of Melbourne. I am approachable. Loves to be involved in the community he lives in and a psycho-fanatic when it comes to outdoor activities. Loves hiking, cycling, swimming, wall-climbing, white water rafting, kayaking, and anything that is performed (legally) under the sun and outdoors. Really looking forward to be active, get involve, meet new faces and entrench old friendships, gain new and beneficial experiences and in general just have a good time while I am studying here. So to anyone who sees me walking down the street, just say hi and I’ll be more than glad to get to know you. (ps – warning, I am not too good with names so my apologies if my memories fails me). Hakunamatata…
Mohammad Izat – Sports Officer
The name is Mohamad Izzat Mohamad Razali. I was born in Alor Setar, Kedah but currently residing in one of the famous holiday spots in Malaysia: Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. I am pursuing my studies in Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, at RMIT University. My love for football tops everything else in this world but I still have other priorities in life and vision that I would want to accomplish. I dislocated my knee during Famsy League Cup early this year and sadly, I missed the UMNO Cup and RMIT Futsal Tournament. Though was told by physiotherapist to rest for a year, my fighting spirit and passion for this sport keep me going and I started playing exactly two months after the incident. I was honored to represent Victoria for MASCA Game in Sydney and at the same time to be able to play along with former President of KUAM, Izhar Moslim. I have also played in few other tournaments. The experiences may not be enough but I hope to make the best out of it and contribute to KUAM as the Sports Officer. I look forward for more tournaments next year and of course, the opportunity to work with amazing and aspiring leaders in the committee. Overall, I consider myself as someone who is willing to take up any challenge, independent and extremely friendly. My ignorance is bliss, so do point out any blunders that I’ve made and things that I should do, for else, you will regret. ;P
Azrina Iqbal – Activities Officer
Azrina Iqbal is a communication professional who is currently working in a brand-building agency in Melbourne. She was born in 1986 and was raised in Petaling Jaya. She completed her studies in advertising, broadcasting and multimedia in the great arts’ hub in Limkokwing Universtiy College. After her 20th year in Malaysia, she left for Brisbane to complete her bachelor in Advertising, Public Relations and Events & Festivals. For the past four years she has been involved in various community and charity projects, big and small events and numerous volunteering and freelance work in two countries and four different cities. Her goal in her career life is to leave a positive mark and create a good impression in her work regardless which part of the world she is in. On the other hand, her goal in life is to meet new people, to create a better and healthier lifestyle and to contribute in shaping a better world out there! Azrina is not really a serious person all the time, seriously. She is “very bubbly, hyperactive, very organised, cheeky, a social bird, funny, annoying at times and creative”, says Anonymous. She is extremely thrilled to be apart of KUAM and looking forward to contribute her best into the club.
Alif Baharudin – Religious Officer
Alif Shamir Baharudin is currently an engineering student at Melbourne University. He was born in Kuala Lumpur on the 16th of June, 1988. At present, he resides in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. As a person, he enjoys making friends with people of different backgrounds as he personally loves listening to their experiences, both successes and failures that they have gone through. Similar to others, he believes that one could, and in fact, ought to always learn from others, either from what he/she observes or perceives. Alif may not be the friendliest individual nor the best joker you have come across, but nonetheless, he insisted not to avoid him if you ever bump into him as many of his acquaintances say, he can be a very good friend and likewise, a decent listener.
Mohd Hazwan – Education Officer
Mohd Hazwan Mohd Hairollah or more commonly known among peers and friends as Ash, is currently undertaking his 3rd year of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Melbourne. Born in 1988 as the eldest brother of 4, Hazwan lives in Selayang and practically spends most of his time in KL except the 5 years being a SDARian. Like any other Malaysian-Melbournians, Hazwan enjoys spending time chill-axing, taking a stroll in the city, enjoying the scenery and studying when he really needs to. He’ll tell you that sport is one of his passions and Manchester United is the best football team in the world. Being a Malaysian-Melbournian is one of the best experiences for Hazwan and he hopes that together with other committee members, he’ll be able to help strengthen the unity among Malaysians living in Melbourne. If you happen to walk past or even catch the sight of Hazwan across the street, don’t be hesitant to wave your hand and say ‘hye’ because he won’t bite and will gladly reply your gesture with a warm-hearted smile.
Muhammad Hussin – Welfare Officer
Muhammad Hussin is a Bachelor of Commerce student at Monash University. He was born on 18th July 1989 in Subang Jaya and has been staying in Shah Alam since then. Went to MRSM Jasin in 2005 and later completed his South Australian Matriculation in Taylor’s University College, Subang Jaya in 2008. Being able to continue studying in Melbourne has made him realized that life is not just about studying. So, he believes that joining KUAM would be the best platform to develop his social skills and helping others. He is very excited to meet and make new friends throughout his life. May be a quiet person when you first met him but his friendly, funny and sarcastic side will be exposed, as you get closer to him. So, just say ‘Hello’ whenever you see him and he will be more than happy to add you in his life’s diary. As part of KUAM committee, he hopes 2010 would be a better year for all of us especially Malaysians in Melbourne.
